NextGenMicrofluidics is an H2020 Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB), combining the services of its partners along the pipeline of microfluidic innovation, accessed through a single entry point called Microfluidics Innovation Hub (MIH).
Within the NextGenMicrofluidics project, an Open Call was managed by the MIH to provide microfluidic product development and manufacture services to companies within Europe. These services were funded with 1,500,000 EUR from the European Commission, to support the over 300,000 EURs paid by the Open Call customers, demonstrating their perceived value of the services provided by MIH and partners.
In total, 43 Open Call applications were submitted, of which 18 were successful in receiving funding. These projects comprised the development of innovative products in point-of-care diagnostics, clinical research, personalised health, and food safety, amongst others. NGM partners were proud to provide combined services including assay development, design and patterning of microfluidic structures, surface functionalization, electrode & sensor integration, backend services, and readout device integration.
The Open Call served to test the viability of a single entry point aimed at advancing microfluidic innovations in key areas of interest. The successful projects and overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers demonstrate that the MIH mode of operation provides significant added value in bridging the gap between prototype and product, and in the advancement of microfluidic technologies.
